Ordos Museum of Land and Resources

A museum in Kangbashi, the newly built Ordos district once dubbed a ghost city, set beside the vast Genghis Khan Square with its four giant statues recounting the hero's story.

The story

Kangbashi is a new district of Ordos, planned on a grand scale and long labelled China's largest ghost city. Its streets are clean and quiet, with broad plazas, parks and roads that rarely fill with people or traffic, and buildings that look lifted from a science fiction film. The Museum of Land and Resources sits within this striking, spacious cityscape. Its setting is Genghis Khan Square, a sweeping open space anchored by four colossal statues, each telling part of the story of the Inner Mongolian hero. Together the sculptures trace Mongol history across the plaza. Ordos has four distinct seasons, and winter brings very deep snow.

Good to know

TAGGG AI
  • Leave time for the neighbouring Genghis Khan Square, where four giant statues each tell part of the hero's story.
  • Expect a calm visit, as the surrounding district's streets, parks and plazas rarely see crowds or heavy traffic.
  • Winters in Ordos bring very deep snow, so dress warmly if visiting in the cold season.
