One River North

Plant-filled terraces cascade down this RiNo apartment tower, whose design draws on Colorado's mountains, canyons, forests and plains, setting it apart from the glass boxes that dominate much of Denver's new residential building.

The story

Rising in the RiNo Art District, a neighbourhood of old railyards and warehouses, One River North was conceived as "apartment homes for humankind." Its stepped terraces and open-air communal spaces are planted so that the greenery takes root and gradually fills in over time, and the whole structure translates Colorado's varied landscapes into architecture. The building was featured on the series "How Did They Build That," and more than 20,000 square feet of decorative concrete were laid across its levels. Residences range from studios to four-bedroom apartments and premium penthouses, many with views over the city. Shared spaces include a rooftop pool and lounge, a gym and a community room for working, catching up with neighbours or a quiet afternoon, and staff host events for residents. RiNo's restaurants, breweries and art are close by, including Blackshirt Brewing just down the street.
