One&Only Moonlight Basin
Lone Mountain fills the lobby balcony view at this Big Sky resort, where cabins, suites and rooms sit among the evergreens and dining runs from Akira Back's modern Japanese to ranch-sourced American at Wildwood.
The story
One&Only Moonlight Basin spreads across Montana's mountains and meadows, with standalone cabins, suites, rooms and private mountain homes, and each guest is paired with a host. Alongside Akira Back and Wildwood, The Landing is an American alpine outpost perched high in the One&Only Sky Lounge, while Dear Josephine, named after a female bootlegger, nods to Montana's prohibition past with whiskey and moonshine. The Moon Shack adds a cocktail and game hut to the mix. Activities follow the seasons: skiing on Big Sky's terrain via the property's own lift, fat-tire biking and winter trails, guided horseback rides into the backcountry and fly fishing. Deer, bears and moose pass through the grounds. A kids club, spa, gym and an oxygen room for adjusting to the altitude round out the stay.
Good to know
TAGGG AI- ✦Reserve Akira Back, the modern Japanese restaurant, well in advance, as it is the standout dinner on the property.
- ✦The spa's oxygen room can help guests acclimatise to the high altitude after arriving.
- ✦Bears, deer and moose roam the grounds, so carry the bear spray the resort provides when walking around.
