Lenny’s Apizza
London's first New Haven-style pizza specialist bakes big, charred, chewy pies inside a corner pub near Finsbury Park station, from a short menu led by tomato pie, potato and rosemary, and the chilli-hot Ray Santiago.
The story
Crispy, chewy, charred is the house motto, and chef-owner Max calls his pizzas pies in the New Haven manner. The slow-proved dough bakes to a browned, smoky crust that holds its shape without flopping, and the pies come out on large metal trays sized for sharing. The menu is deliberately short: a simple tomato pie finished with pecorino, cheese and tomato, potato and rosemary, sausage, pepperoni and the Ray Santiago with its hot chilli. Lenny's operates inside a corner pub close to Finsbury Park tube, so there is a solid range of drinks, Guinness included, to go with the pizza. Max has been known to step out of the kitchen to say hello to tables and ask how the pies went down.
