La Gaîté Lyrique

Concerts, exhibitions, talks and workshops fill this City of Paris cultural centre near the Marais, where a first-floor café and small library also draw people to read, work or simply linger.

The story

Since 2023 the centre has run as the Fabrique de l'époque, a project led by Arty Farty, ARTE France, makesense, SINGA and Actes Sud that ties artistic creation to social engagement and to cultural, democratic and climate questions. The building pairs old architecture with new, and its modern concert hall, built around sound and light, keeps band and audience close, with big screens showing artists' videos. The programme stretches from Stefan Sagmeister's exhibition Finally, Something Good to the ARTE Concert Festival, a surf and skate film festival and the All Black Kiki Ball. Teenagers from 13 can drop into Studio 13/16, a free creative studio run with the Centre Pompidou, with photo equipment and graphic software. Between events, sofas, sockets and free wifi make the café a relaxed place to spend an afternoon.

Good to know

TAGGG AI
  • Several exhibitions have been free to enter, often installed on the first floor alongside the café.
  • Free entry, free wifi and charging sockets make the café and library a practical spot for laptop work.
  • Concerts take place in a modern hall with strong sound, lighting and screens that still feels intimate.
