Kitchen Table

Chefs cook and serve a daily changing Modern British tasting menu around a horseshoe-shaped counter at this two-Michelin-star Fitzrovia restaurant run by James Knappett and sommelier Sandia Chang.

The story

The evening begins in the Kitchen Table Lounge, where guests take a drink and the first snacks before moving to the counter that wraps around the kitchen itself. From there, Knappett and his team prepare each course in full view and talk diners through it. Each course is built around a single ingredient, such as oyster, scallop, truffle or deer, which comes from a long-standing network of independent suppliers or is foraged, some of it in London. A squid noodle dish has been on the menu since the early days. Kitchen Table opened in 2012, won its first Michelin star in 2014 and its second in 2018, along with Michelin's Welcome and Service Award. Knappett cooked at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Petrus, Per Se and noma. Chang's list is strong on Grower Champagnes, and the bar works with house-made spirits and liqueurs.
