Huanggang Port

Cross-border coaches bound for Hong Kong districts such as Tsim Sha Tsui leave from Huanggang Port, a busy road crossing in Shenzhen's Futian District that is being rebuilt as a modern port.

The story

Huanggang Port is a working border crossing between Shenzhen and Hong Kong in Futian District. The current facility is utilitarian, compact and bustling, though immigration can move quickly. Buses and taxis serve the crossing, and cross-border coaches run to Hong Kong destinations such as Tsim Sha Tsui, each showing where it is headed on the windscreen. The routine is simple once you know it. You leave the coach for the customs walk-through, and a bay number is announced where the same coach picks you up again on the other side. A money exchange is available before boarding. The port is in the middle of a transformation, being rebuilt as a new facility with "one-location, two-inspections" clearance, intended to make crossing between the two cities smoother.

Good to know

TAGGG AI
  • Bring cash for the cross-border bus, as mobile payment may be restricted to residents; a money exchange operates before boarding.
  • Board the coach showing your destination on the windscreen, and listen for the bay number announced for pickup after customs.
  • Expect a long walk from immigration to the taxi rank and the metro, so private transport is easier.
