Hôtel Saint-Georges - Relais & Châteaux

Luke Edward Hall dressed this historic five-star chalet at the end of Megève's pedestrian street, mixing Savoyard wood and wall murals with the whimsy of an English country salon, steps from the ski lifts.

The story

The four floors are each conceived as a chapter of a story, drawing on Alpine myths, nature and folklore. Thick curtains and enveloping armchairs give the public rooms a theatrical feel. The 29 bedrooms use Pierre Frey fabrics, patterned headboards and boldly styled bathrooms, and some have balconies looking toward the church bell tower. Le Trappeur, the wood-panelled bistro, serves generous, classic French cooking at long tables set with hand-drawn crockery, with the scent of a wood fire. The piano bar is hushed in the afternoon and livelier after dark, offering precise cocktails, fireside armchairs and chess. The wellness space is built around contrast therapy: a Japanese sauna, cold plunge baths and a jacuzzi, plus massages in a duo cabin and a gym with a boxing bag.
