The story
Hôtel La Ponche stands in the heart of Saint-Tropez's historic quarter, at the edge of La Ponche beach, with views over the bay. Guests leave their cars in the hotel garage and ride a small Piaggio a minute down to the cove. There are 21 rooms plus apartments and La Maison, decorated with personal touches such as stationery and a seal press bearing the initials of the actor, musician or artist each room is named for. The bar once rang with Boris Vian's trumpet and Bardot's laughter, and people still dance there to French songs over interesting cocktails. A Provençal restaurant with Mediterranean touches runs from the terrace to the sea, while the spa offers yoga and massage. The pontoon gives direct access to the cove for swimming, and shops, restaurants and the port are a short walk away.
