Hara I Sanat Alanı

Out among the green hills of Uskumruköy in Sarıyer, Hara pairs striking contemporary architecture with Ermanno Casasco's landscaped gardens, rotating exhibitions, concerts and a courtyard café, far from the city's bustle.

The story

The building, designed by architects Cengiz Kurt, Ertan Ergöçmen and Özgür Karasu, has a calm, almost Scandinavian feel, with interiors where every corner seems carefully composed. Outside, landscape architect Ermanno Casasco shaped sculpted hills planted with unusual species, including feijoa, making the grounds as much a draw as the galleries. Exhibitions change periodically. The current show, “Canavarların Vaatleri” (Promises of Monsters), curated by Ezgi Hamzaçebi, takes a horror-inspired theme and goes well beyond paintings on walls, with guided tours on weekends. The programme also includes concerts, performances and workshops for young children, and a small café in the courtyard garden serves coffee to linger over after a visit.

Good to know

TAGGG AI
  • Allow around two hours for the exhibition and grounds, plus extra time for coffee and a snack at the café.
  • Sundays get very crowded, and café seating moves to a small indoor area when it rains.
