Gagarin 205

One of Athens' oldest live music venues, Gagarin 205 hosts Greek and international acts from rock and metal to post-punk, in a hall whose stepped floor gives a clear view of the stage.

The story

Gagarin 205 has long been a fixture of the Athens gig circuit, booking Greek bands alongside touring international names. The calendar leans heavily on rock and metal, with events such as the Up the Hammers festival and thrash bills like Coroner. It also takes in post-punk and darkwave minifests, acts such as Bob Moses and Faun, and a separate Gagarin Comedy programme of stand-up shows. Inside, the main floor rises in steps toward the back, so those at the rear stand higher and still see the stage. A balcony upstairs offers room away from the crowd below. Two bars sit on either side of the hall, band merchandise is laid out nearby, and a checkroom takes coats and bags. The proportions keep performers only a few metres from the audience.

Good to know

TAGGG AI
  • Take metro line 1 to Attiki station, since parking in the surrounding area is very hard to find.
  • The lower floor gets warm and crowded at busy shows, while the upstairs balcony has more room and better air.
  • There is a spot right outside the venue to grab a bite before the show starts.
