Excel London

Beside Royal Victoria Dock, Excel London fills its vast halls with around 400 events a year, from MCM Comic Con and World Travel Market to trade fairs and immersive waterfront shows.

The story

Prince Albert opened Royal Victoria Dock as a working dock in 1855, and the Royal Docks closed to commercial traffic in 1981. Excel opened here in November 2000 as one of Europe's largest regeneration projects. It went on to host seven Olympic and six Paralympic events during London 2012, and became the NHS Nightingale temporary hospital in 2020. Today its enormous halls take in trade fairs, conventions and fan events, with ICC London for conferences and Immerse LDN on the waterfront, where Timewalk leads through 12,000 years of history with 360° projections. Custom House station on the Elizabeth line serves the venue directly, a cable car links it to The O2, and the dockside around it, lined with cafes, restaurants and hotels, makes for an easy walk after a show.

Good to know

TAGGG AI
  • Take the Elizabeth line to Custom House, where the entrance is a short walk past restaurants and bars from the platform.
  • At busy conferences, eat lunch early or bring a packed lunch so you don't miss sessions.
  • Parking at the venue is charged at a daily rate rather than hourly, so even a short stay costs a full day.
