Ellenborough Park
A 15th-century manor turned five-star hotel on a 90-acre estate between the Cotswolds' highest point and the Cheltenham Racecourse gallops, with a spa tucked into its tower and rooms full of country house character.
The story
The building has stood for more than 500 years and has welcomed guests since 1973. Restored to its original five-star standard, the manor and its outbuildings feel more like a small medieval hamlet than a single house, set in rolling countryside. Rooms range from hideaways tucked into the eaves to boltholes with their own gardens, many with roll-top baths and Hypnos beds. The spa sits in the tower, with an outdoor pool and treatments that include a Japanese Head Spa. The kitchen leans on local produce, served in The Restaurant and in a more relaxed bar. Guests can borrow Dubarry boots from the Boot Room to walk the estate, dogs are welcomed, and the grounds make it a favoured setting for weddings and anniversaries.
