Carlotta

Behind a velvet curtain on Marylebone High Street, Carlotta is Big Mamma's 80s-inspired Italian-American restaurant, a tribute to Italian families who carried their recipes to America, set across gilded rooms and a midnight-blue basement.

The story

The gilded main dining room has opulent curtained walls, gold mirrors, framed pictures and a backlit Rosso Levanto marble bar, with a terrace for afternoons outside. The Salottino adds leather banquettes under skylights, swirling pink and turquoise carpets and framed Gucci silks. The midnight-blue suede basement lounge has a curved mirror-striped ceiling and views into the open kitchen. Even the bathroom is lined with mirrors. The Italian-American menu runs from courgette flowers filled with lemony ricotta to a spicy 'nduja take on spaghetti and meatballs, truffled Fettuccine Alfredo for two and Cornish lemon sole meunière with caper butter. Burrata comes from Caseificio Montrone in Puglia and Prosciutto di Parma from Luigi Devodier. The Wedding Cake closes things out alongside tiramisù and pistachio gelato.

Good to know

TAGGG AI
  • Book ahead on the website, as tables go quickly, though some are held back for walk-ins.
  • The basement is very dark and loud, so ask for a table upstairs if you want easy conversation.
  • Standouts include the truffle Fettuccine Alfredo, the Puglian burrata, pasta alla vodka with crab and a generously sized cheesecake.
