Woods

Bosco di Santo Pietro
Centuries-old cork oaks fill this Caltagirone woodland, where trekking trails, picnic areas with barbecues and a small village make for an unhurried day close to nature.
The story
The Bosco di Santo Pietro is a cork oak forest, and its centuries-old trees are the main reason to come. Trekking routes thread through the woods, making it a good place for a restorative walk, for getting to know the local flora and fauna, or simply for breathing fresh air away from town. The trees and clearings also reward anyone with a camera. Within the woods sits a small village where some people still live. Equipped picnic areas with barbecues draw groups for a day out among the trees, and on Sundays families come for an ice cream while the children play. Evenings are quiet, with little going on after dark.
Good to know
TAGGG AI- ✦Signage to the most scenic spots is sparse, so plan your route before setting off.
- ✦Picnic areas come equipped with barbecues; bring your own supplies and take all rubbish away with you.
- ✦Go during the day, ideally on a Sunday, as there is little to do in the evening.
