The story

Anana buys single-origin specialty coffee scoring 84 points or more and rotates its line-up every two to three months, following each country's harvest so the beans arrive fresh. Everything is roasted in small batches at the company's 300-square-metre roastery in Cholargos, and beans are sold by the bag here alongside matcha and branded goods. The café occupies an old passage off lively Praxitelous Street. Its interior is calm, clean-lined and carefully designed, and tables spill into the atrium courtyard of a 1970s building. The kitchen is vegetarian and largely vegan: cakes, rolls and buns, banana bread, lemon cake, eggs as omelettes or open sandwiches, and avocado toast with poached egg, carrot hummus, gremolata and chia seeds.

Good to know

TAGGG AI
  • The cinnamon buns often sell out, so come in the morning if you want one.
  • Tables can be hard to find, especially at weekends, though the wait is usually short.
  • The back has table service, while seats at the front and outside are self-service; order and choose at the counter.
